You Can Have A Lucky Game, But Not A Lucky Career

I searched the web looking for the quote from that famous movie, Fever Pitch, where Jimmy Fallon explains why he loves baseball.  He says it is fair.  Either you can hit a curve ball or you can’t.  You can have a lucky game, but not a lucky season.  This is true, baseball is a game of averages.  Eventually, everything balances itself out.  Especially over a course of a career.  This is what leads us to today’s post.  Last year, Greg Maddux had a subpar year, but the law of averages tells you he will probably not have two bad years in a row.

Right on Brother! I must admit that I was glad when Hendry signed him over the off season after the way he has helped this club cover for the Broke Arm Mountain boys, but that time has come and gone. I’ve quietly suffered through 5 bad starts and think that the Cubs need to do something with him. Giving Hill a shot at some experience in the Bigs is a good move. I think that we can agre that when/ if Wood and Prior return then Sean Marshall should have dibs on the fifth starter job (for now). Guzman and Hill will benefit greatly from the seasoning and maybe we can get rid of One or both of the broke arm boys over the winter for a good player or players necessary to fill needs (not sure yet but I am sure Hendry will fail to sign Pierre leaving us in need of a lead off man next year).

Rusch must go! Anywhere!! I agree that they need to do something, but I can’t see the Cubs going with a three rookies rotation. Man, did yesterday depress me! And Aardsma, don’t get me started. I was hoping the Brewers would come back flat today, but it looks like a rain out. At least that will let the Cubs put off the Rusch decision for another start.
